Maelri was born to Dov and Kelisea Tessar. Dov’s family was a part of House Alde, but when things got a little tense between himself and his parents, he decided to take an extended leave of absence and travel the galaxy as a smuggler. He met Kelisea 10 years later after smuggling her out of Black Sun territory on Coruscant. They were soon married and after a few years, they decided to go back to Alderaan to have their first child, Maelri. Despite the tensions in his family, Dov and Kelisea were welcomed back and given an estate to raise their daughter in.
Unfortunately, when Maelri was about a year old, the Tessar’s discovered that the Barsail family of House Thul had placed a bounty on their entire family. For what reason, Dov and Kelisea weren’t entirely sure, but they took their infant daughter and fled Alderaan once more. After taking Mae to an old friend on Coruscant, the two went into hiding, leaving their daughter to grow up unaware of her status in House Alde.
Under the care of Darren Ta’em, a retired Commando who had served the Republic most of his life, Maelri began to hate her parents for leaving her. Darren was a gross old man with no manners and absolutely no respect for women. Although he never mistreated Mae, she would always overhear him talking to his buddies about how he couldn’t wait for her to grow up. The older she got, the more vulgar he became, until one day she got really fed up.
At the age of 14, she finally had enough of his; and his friends’; vulgarity. Taking it upon herself, she decided to “deal” with him. So, one night as he was drinking his Corellian Whiskey, she made sure to keep him busy talking and drinking for hours on end. This, in turn, caused his liver to shut down due to the sheer amount of alcohol. That night, he passed away in his sleep, thus leaving her to fend for herself. So, seeing as he had absolutely no family, she got everything he had. His ship, money, belongings, everything. Unfortunately for her, she had absolutely no idea how to fly the darned ship, so when she went to take off, she ended up “bumping” into a few buildings in the process. Once she finally got out of the planet’s atmosphere, she accidentally bumped the hyperdrive.
When it finally disengaged, she found herself hurtling towards the sandy surface of Tatooine. Luckily, she managed to correct the trajectory just enough to avoid the ship blowing up, but she didn’t manage to stop it from fully crashing into the surface. Of course, the impact knocked her out, and when she came to, she could hear the nondescript communication of the local “sand people”. She had heard of them, but only in stories. So she ran to the nearby city of Anchorhead at the first chance she got. Within a couple of days after getting there, she was left with no other choice but to take a job at a local cantina, or risk starvation. She was too young to start serving drinks, so she was ultimately placed into the role of being a dancer.
Over the next two years, she slowly saved up as many credits as she could so that she could get off the sandy hellhole. One evening, her boss gave her a rather sizable bonus for all her “good work lately” and made several advances. When he dismissed her, she ran off to a small, nearby cave in the desert that she had made her home. In the past two years, she had found and raised 3 Anooba young when there was no sign of their pack. They’d become her friends and protectors and they eagerly welcomed her home each night. Trained through a series of whistles and clicks, the Anooba knew what Mae needed them to do, and when.
The bonus had been just enough to get her off of the planet, but she wanted to get a little bit more, so she stashed it away, and the next day she began working twice as hard to make some extra tips. However, after two months, the cantina, unfortunately, lost a few workers when Imperials came to the planet in search of an ex-Republic spy. When no one gave them the information they wanted, they killed many families, and in-turn found the spy. About a month later, Mae met a young, female Mirialan named Raldani. After finding out that Raldani’s father had been the spy and her mother had been one of Mae’s coworkers, Raldani offered to give Mae a free ride to the Republic Fleet.
Packing up all that she had as well as giving her Anooba the command to follow her, Mae went with Raldani to the Republic Fleet, where she instantly searched for and found a transport to a new planet. And it just so happened that it was a transport to Alderaan. Once she was on the planet’s surface, it didn’t take her long to find a job, though it was another cantina job. But, she decided to ignore what the job was and instead focus on settling into the new culture.
Within a few months, people began to talk, knowing exactly who she was. It was only when someone approached her that she heard that her family was from House Alde and that she was technically nobility. Disbelieving, she chose to remain at the cantina and continue working. Shortly thereafter she met Alexander Barsail, who she would later marry a year and a half later after he became a guard to House Alde. This, much to her dismay, led the leader of the House to confirm to her that she was indeed nobility and that the Tessar family had left behind an estate that was immediately passed along to her.
After spending the next few hours exploring the estate both inside and out, Mae discovered her family’s library. In it were datacrons and holorecords covering many different topics, most of which she wasn’t really interested in. But she soon found an entire section dedicated to the fauna of the galaxy, from the Anooba all the way to the Wampa and more. After a few hours of reading and watching the recordings, she soon discovered that not only was she good with animals, but her entire family had been as well. Thus, over the span of a few generations, they compiled a large database of most (if not all) of the creatures scattered throughout the galaxy. This would be where Mae would spend much of her time, learning more about the creatures of the galaxy.
Three years after they got married, they went on an anniversary date to a cave. Mae was so in awe of the beauty of the cave that she neglected to realize that she was walking herself right into a trap. So, as she walked around the cave, looking at the unique vegetation, Alex followed behind her as he waited for her to activate the well thought out trap. When she inadvertently caused a cave-in, he acted quickly to “save” her, which ended in her receiving a large gash over her right eye. One that would later turn into a lasting scar and memory.
After watching her husband die in front of her, with her unable to do anything to save him, Mae would return to her estate to mourn the loss as she blamed herself for his death. Though she didn’t have long before she discovered there was a bounty on her head from an unknown source. Similarly to how her parents had fled the estate before her, Mae left the beautiful planet that had become her home in the dead of night, with her 3 Anooba still following obediently at her side.
At the age of 21, Mae traveled the galaxy for only a couple of months before the bounty hunter caught up with her on Hoth. She’d commanded her Anooba to stay on the ship to protect them against the freezing temperatures when the bounty hunter cornered her. Scared and unsure of what to do, Mae closed her eyes, wishing he would go away. That was when the force awakened within her and sent the bounty hunter flying, unintentionally, into the jaws of a hungry Wampa. When she opened her eyes, she watched in fear as the wampa dragged the screaming bounty hunter towards its den. It was during that time that a mysterious stranger approached her and led her back to the Republic’s base on Hoth. Once there, they told her to search out the Commonwealth and their Jedi, as they’d seen her use the Force and they believed the Commonwealth to be a better fit for her than the Republic.
Taking the stranger’s advice, Mae searched out the Commonwealth, and soon joined their Jedi, becoming a Padawan to Master Noorha Ardevan. It was during this time that she met Zach, another Padawan, and soon began to open her heart to love once more. Little did she know that one day, she would marry him. Her best friend and soulmate.
